Positano, Amalfi and Ravello stack up a near-vertical coastline above the Tyrrhenian, linked by a famously narrow corniche and by ferries in summer. Swimming is off pebble beaches and boats, the Path of the Gods gives serious ridge walking, and it is expensive in peak season.

Why Amalfi Coast stands out
The Amalfi Coast's single coastal road winds along cliffs connecting towns like Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.
Positano's pastel houses are built in tiers up a steep hillside facing directly onto the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Ravello's cliffside gardens, including Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, host panoramic terraces overlooking the coastline.
The region is the origin of limoncello, made from large Sfusato Amalfitano lemons grown on terraced groves.
Good to know
- The coastal road becomes heavily congested in summer, and many visitors use ferries between towns instead of driving.
- Beaches along the coast are mostly small and pebbly, often accessed via steep staircases from the road above.
- Parking is extremely limited in towns like Positano, and some hotels do not offer on-site parking at all.
