Household prices are not public charging prices
These are residential electricity prices — what households pay at home. They are not public EV charging prices, which can differ substantially, especially at rapid chargers. The “1,000 km EV cost” is a Destination Finder comparison assumption (a fixed 18 kWh per 100 km, so 180 kWh per 1,000 km, multiplied by the residential price). It is an energy cost only — not a quote for charging on the road.
Planning a trip? Use these prices in the Travel Cost Calculator to compare petrol, diesel and EV energy costs for your exact route and vehicle.
Methodology and source
- Official data: every price is the Eurostat household electricity reference price for consumption band DC (2,500–4,999 kWh per year), all taxes included, published for H2 2025. Values are used exactly as published and are never reinterpreted.
- Coverage: the 27 EU member states plus Norway — 28 countries — exactly as present in the Eurostat snapshot.
- Units and currency: prices are published in euros per kilowatt-hour and displayed as such. No currency conversion is ever applied.
- 1,000 km EV cost: estimated at a fixed 18 kWh per 100 km (180 kWh per 1,000 km), multiplied by the residential price. A Destination Finder comparison assumption only — real-world EV efficiency varies, and public charging prices differ.
- No European average: the snapshot contains no official comparable EU aggregate, so this page shows the lowest and highest country prices and no computed average.
- Freshness: Eurostat household electricity prices are published twice a year. A snapshot is treated as fresh for 330 days past the end of its reference period and is labelled when older.
