How the 1,000 km cost is estimated
Each country’s 1,000 km figure uses one fixed, transparent assumption: a petrol car consuming 6.5 L/100 km uses 65 litres over 1,000 km, and a diesel car consuming 5.5 L/100 km uses 55 litres. The estimate is simply the official price per litre multiplied by those litres — these are Destination Finder comparison assumptions, not manufacturer figures, and real consumption varies by vehicle and driving style.

Methodology and source
- Official data: every price is the consumer pump price (including duties and taxes) for Euro-super 95 petrol or automotive diesel oil published by the European Commission Weekly Oil Bulletin for 24 Aug 2026. Values are used exactly as published and are never reinterpreted.
- Coverage: the 27 EU countries currently present in the Weekly Oil Bulletin snapshot. Countries not in the bulletin are not listed.
- Units and currency: prices are published in euros per litre and displayed as such. No currency conversion is ever applied.
- 1,000 km estimate: petrol at a fixed 6.5 L/100 km (65 litres) and diesel at a fixed 5.5 L/100 km (55 litres), multiplied by the official price. Comparison assumptions only — not manufacturer figures.
- No EU average: the Weekly Oil Bulletin snapshot contains no official comparable EU aggregate, so this page shows the lowest and highest country prices and no computed European average.
- Freshness: the Weekly Oil Bulletin is published weekly. A snapshot is treated as fresh for 21 days past its reference date and is labelled when older.
